This is not a sweet side dish. This is a relish to be served over the top of turkey. Since I don’t like turkey that much, this makes it pretty tolerable.
1 bag fresh cranberries, 12 oz?
1 orange, peel, don’t throw it away. Section and remove seeds
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup pecans
You need a food processor for this one. Mom throws it all in and grinds it to a smooth chutney-like consistency, but I like to remove the pith from the orange peel. Take a small, sharp carving knife. Cut the orange peel into sections and carefully scrape the white pith off and discard. It is quite bitter and your relish will be much sweeter and have less bitter aftertaste if you scrape away the pith. You can puree it well and then add the pecans last and process them only until they are finely chopped for a more interesting texture.
Serve over turkey or ham.
